What Should A Christian Do?

Bill Brinkworth

Being saved and trusting Christ as Saviour is only the beginning! Once a person has been “born again” (John 3:3), there is much God requires of him. We are not saved just to sit! We are saved to obey and serve. Here is a list of several things Christians are expected to do:

Love the Lord.
“And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.” Deuteronomy 6:5

Read your Bible. It is the spiritual food for Christians. How can a believer expect to obey God if he does not know what God recorded in His word and expects of him? One cannot grow spiritually unless he feeds on spiritual food!
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” II Timothy 2:5
“Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” I Peter 2:1, 2

Be Baptized!
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:” Matthew 28:19, Also: Acts. 8:12-13, Acts 8:36-38

Quit the sins God convicts you of doing. Separate from sin and things that could make you fall. God will work on one sin at a time in your life: little by little. If you do fall into sin, get right back up, seek God’s forgiveness, and do right!
“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.” Romans 6:12

Do right!
“Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” II Timothy 2:22

Join and attend a local Bible-believing church. Not every building that calls itself a “church” is Bible believing. If you read and know your Bible, God will help you discern which churches are Bible believing.
“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." Hebrews 10:25

Tell others about Christ and how to be saved.
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.” Proverbs 11:30

Be thankful.
“O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.” Psalms 105:1

Pray.
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayers and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6

Serve. Ask God for a ministry.
“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.” Ecclesiastes 9:10

Tithe. Tithing is giving God one-tenth of what He allows you to earn.
“Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.” Malachi 3:8

A Sunday school teacher once asked her class, “How is the will of God done in heaven?”

One child answered, “Cheerfully.”

Another, “By everybody.”

A third, “All the time.”

But the best answer was, “It is done without asking any questions.” - D.L. Moody
