What We Do Have

Bill Brinkworth

A born-again child of God is on the winning side. They should all be so happy about who they have become because of God’s wonderful grace and gift of salvation. However, anyone that has been in church for a period of time can quickly see, we lose many to the world’s side. They get attracted by what the world has to offer, and soon no longer live the way God would have them live. Soon it is hard to see any difference between how they live and how the ungodly live.

It is past time for all to examine the fact that living for God offers far more than the short-lived baubles the Godless world offers. Although the Bible is peppered with many, many blessings one receives when living a separated, Spirit-led life, here is some of what Proverbs 10-11 says a person following the Lord’s commands has:

We have hope! No matter what happens in our lives, we have God’s promise He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). We can be assured, if we are in His will and doing His will, His way will always be for our best!
“The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.” Proverbs 10:28

We have strength! When it seems impossible to trudge on, He will give you strength!
“The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.” Pro. 10:29

We will eventually be victorious , no matter how bad the situation looks!
“The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.” Pro. 10:30

We have Godly wisdom! No matter how unpopular and unpracticed by many, a Christian believing and following biblical teaching is far wiser than one living a life led by his own will and way.
“The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.” Pro. 10:31

We know what is right! The world hopelessly spends their life looking for the truth. A Bible believer has it.
“The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.” Pro. 10:32

We have direction! Godly living will keep you from going down the wrong road!
“The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.” Pro. 11:5

We have deliverance! All go through valleys and trials in this life; but God promises if we rely on Him, He will deliver us.
“The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.” Pro. 11:6 & 8

We are blessed! The world desperately tries to succeed. They save, steal, cheat and use other methods to acquire what they think has value, but still come up empty-handed and are still unfulfilled. One living and led by faith will be blessed by God so much that even others will benefit by God’s blessing on his life.
“By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.” Pro. 11:11

So are you a Christian? Then do not peek at and covet what the ungodly have. If you read the second part of the above verses, you will see those that do not live God’s way surely will suffer loss. A child of God has so much. We truly should be grateful and thankful!

A Christian is a mind through which Christ thinks; a heart through which Christ loves; a voice through which Christ speaks; a hand through which Christ helps.” — George Muller
