News from your Missionaries to Romania
April 2008
Family News:
As I am writing, I am flying to Arkansas to be with my family. My grandmother is about to die and I am hoping to get there to see her one last time. Some of my fondest childhood memories center around my grandmother. I will miss her, but I know that it is time, Many will be there. She has ten children and a multitude of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
I have our third son, Nathanael, with me. I was able to arrange for him to see his cardiologist while we are in Arkansas . We had originally planned for him and I to come to the States in October (about six months before our next furlough) in order to be able to line up his next surgery date. This visit will make it to where we don't have to come again in October.
Please pray for my wife and the rest of my children while I am gone. As far as we can tell everything is in order and running smoothly but you never know what could come up in a two week period of time.
We have started work on our house again. We finished digging the basement (by hand) and as soon as I get back we will pour the foundation and floor and begin (I have to learn how to do this) laying block for the basement. Soon we should be able to start framing.
Ministry News:
The last several months have been busy. Our Institute is going well with 3 students. The two classes we are teaching this semester are Baptist History and Pastoral Epistles. We are starting our village ministries up again now that the weather is starting to warm up. This Saturday Bro. Boyle will be taking the young people out to a couple of the villages. Usually the first few weeks are the best attended and the children are especially attentive since it is something new. Pray that God will touch hearts and many will be saved and follow the Lord.
This last weekend I preached a three day revival for an Independent Baptist Church in Busteni , Romania , which is a Church started and led by Missionary Garry Matheny. The revival was well attended by over 100 at each service.
Brother Boyle and I are also filling in for another Missionary that is out of the country for a few months. We have been switching back and forth from Sunday to Sunday. For the next few Sundays Bro. Boyle will be going on Sunday afternoons.
We still want to start a Church in the village that we live in. We are thinking about three pieces of property. We are asking God for wisdom. We have several people in our village who are saved and members of our Church in Onesti. Many other people have indicated that they would come if the Church were in our village. Pray for us in this endeavor.
We have seen many disappointments over the last 2 years. One of the biggest is when our members leave Romania to go to other countries to work. Usually when they go they don't even try to find a Church. After being gone for a while they come back but no longer want to come to Church. Almost all the young people we had have left the country. This is a problem with every Missionary I have talked to. We are spiritually just about like the rest of Europe . Pray for revival. Please pray for young men to get serious for the Lord.
Many Thanks:
We thank all who continue to pray for us and support us financially. God has been so good to us in meeting all our needs. We appreciate your sacrifice and the time that you spend praying for us. There have been times when we have been a little discouraged but something will happen that picks us back up and keeps us going. We believe that this is because of the prayers of God's people.
Update:
Since writing this prayer letter I have been in Arkansas for a week. I was able to spend about an hour with my grandmother before she died. The funeral was held on Monday the 31 st of March. I was privileged to be able to have a part in the funeral. All went well and it was good to see many of the family that I had not seen in many, many years.
Nathanael’s appointment went well. The doctor said that if Nathanael continues to be as healthy as he is now that there is no reason to do surgery to put in a valve. The doctor said that a valve would not improve his quality of life in any noticeable degree and would have to be changed after 10 or 15 years as it deteriorates. As long as Nathanael continues to do well there is no need for surgery. Praise the Lord for this news. We are relieved and Nathanael is especially relieved.
Nathanael and I are looking forward to getting home next week. We will be traveling home on the 10 – 11 of April.
