Missionaries to India and Myanmar
September 1, 2008
Dear Prayer Partners,
The summer months seem to have flown by as we prepare to return to India and Myanmar in September. We praise the Lord for all He has done, and all that He is going to do.
UPDATES FROM THE FIELD:
India:
Nambike Baptist Church: Pastor Raju writes to us that V. B. S. this summer was wonderful. In addition to classes for children, he also had an adult class. He reports that "thirteen adults made a decision for Christ and even some of them learned the O. T. and N. T. books names and recited them on V. B. S. Sunday." Raja also reports that the folks in the church are giving extra in order to improve the interior appearance of the church house. Additionally, "this month, fifteen have made a decision for Christ." In July, he reported that five had been saved. He also updated us on a man, we afffectionately call Nimbomano man (lemon man). He had been a drunkard and got saved, and his family testifies that he does not drink any more. He and his family sell lemons and when they see us in town they start filing a plastic bag with their best lemons and present them to us. They refuse to take any money from us. Ah, if only we all gave Him our best.
Nericksha Baptist Fellowship: Since the Lord provided water to Preeti Colony, families are staying permanently, so the church is growing physically as well as spiritually.
Manipur, India. We have not heard from Pastor Robin for two months. Tom will have the opportunity to go to Manipur in November. He has been invited to preach/teach at a Bible Conference held there. A special area permit will be necessary for him to travel there. He hopes to be able to see Robin then.
Myanmar:
Bethel Baptist Church and Bible Institue, Pastor Jacob: Praise the Lord! Three weeks ago, the folks of Bethel Baptist Church moved into their own building. A few more renovations need to be completed before the college students can move into the building. We had considered not having the Institute this year because of the devastating cyclone, but most of the students were already making their way to Yangon when the terrible storm hit. Pray for Jacob's wife, Sandar. She has been diagnosed with an aneurysm in her neck.
Mercy Baptist Chruch, Pastor Pa Lian: When we are away, Pa Lian sends us a day by day account of those he shares the Gospel with and those he disciples. In July, another Buddhist accepted Christ as her Saviour. As the church grows, so does Pa Lian's family. His wife is due to deliver a baby any day now.
Pa Lian recently wrote, "As I sow the seed of salvation ... we are seeing the fruits gradually. Mercy Baptist Church has three new won souls attending regularly. There are two ready and waiting to be baptized." He also reported, "As I intensified preaching the Gospel in the wake of the cyclone, some people are saying about this. Actually this is a fact that I'd be going the same way with the same inspiration whether there was a disaster or not. I regard it as my divinely assigned job."
Myanmar/China Border, Namkha: Pastor Jacob had the opportunity to visit with Namkha in his home place. Life is very difficult there. There is no postal system, nor telephone service. He has told Jacob that it is very hard to share the Gospel unless you have developed a relationship with them; then they listen. He currently has a dozen believers he is now discipling in his church.
Together, making a difference,
Tom and Jerilyn Kane
